1967 B40GA
« on: 05.03. 2026 20:19 »
G'day Fellas.
A good mate has asked me to rebuild his B40 motor. I've never been inside of one of these.
The GA part of the engine # means Australian Army. Searching for parts lists I can only find 1965 B40, anything after that is B44.
Question, will the 65 list give me the correct #'s for the 67 or should I look at the 67 B44 list?

The barrel is toast along with the exhaust valve & guide, the rocker box is damaged. The bore is +40 and the piston looks great, little & big ends feel good as well. I can get a s/hand +20 barrel and bore to match the piston with new rings. Lots of other bits to find.
Cheers

Try Britcycle Parts Co in Qld, they have quite a lot of b40 b44 parts listed at realistic prices. I have dealt with them for A10 parts and have had no issues, good company.

G'day fd.
Yes bought A10 bits from him.
Yes I have been through their list and earmarked the barrel & rockerbox. He has most of the parts but the part #'s don't match. No one has a list for the B40 past 65.
I sent him a message yesterday morning but haven't received a reply yet.
Cheers

Military versions should have the roller big end assembly I think, if you have to go into the bowels.
IKBA about unit singles having only ever had a very forgettable C15 in my youth: abuse by POs and teenage ignorance on my own part didn't sit well together  . . .
https://bsa-info.nz/manuals/ looks a very useful site, with pdfs of most unit models listed. Early and late unit 350s included  . . . might help you a bit?

G'day Groily.
Yes lots there too. Yes it's pressed up crank with rollers. Thanks

I've made a shopping list and Britcycle has every thing  *yeah*. Just got to run the $671.60 list past the mate.

I had one of those for a few years, it was quite a good bike. Didnt do anything outstanding but went ok and was reliable.
