Front brake
« on: 14.04. 2026 23:55 »
Came across this bike for sale here in Aus. What took my eye was the front brake, looks like he has fitted two 8" single sided hubs back to back. Not really sure why as one works perfectly well on its own. I've had a few bikes with the 8" single sided hub and they are by far the best front brake BSA ever made.

i don't think one single sided will be good enough to stop those beer carriers full of ale. ;)

I agree with Brian,
Also, consider the considerable increase to unsprung weight at the front end.

I know the guy with that bike, he reports that it’s not as good as it looks. The later twin leader is by far the best upgrade for our A’s.

the second hub is mirrored the original, would the leading edge be reversed and therefore have little effect? I had a series Landrover years ago that the brakes were worse that they really should have been..turned out the front hubs had been removed at some point and put back the wrong way around.. left on right, right on left etc.. took an age to figure it out..

Both sides still have one leading and one trailing shoe.  It helps if you can get more force or movement onto the leading shoe (or shoes) than the trailing one(s).
