Wet sumped

Bit low of fuel, so bike sputtered to a stop before I could switch to reserve within a few hundred yards of starting off from home yesterday. Difficult to restart, so pushed it home noticing a trail of oil. Removed sump plug and about 1 1/2 pints of oil were retrieved, never wet sumped before, bugger.
Running SRM pump so suspect its the dreaded ball behind the pump, will check sump again tomorrow before a ride out.
Investigating online ball valve with interlock, but abit wary of anything within oil line and possible airlock situation

I drained the sump on Saturday along with an engine oil change and primary cover oil change and there was about a teacupful of oil that came out of the sump.
I'm running SRM oil pump and PRV and now wondering if this is normal. I've not ridden that many miles but do a service at least once a year.
One and a half pints seems excessive but i can live with mine.

If I drain the sump of my A10 overnight I get 100 - 150 ml of oil. Draining it longer gets just a few more drops.

Hi Billy,
How long wa the bike sitting idle?
If more than a few weeks/months there maybe nothing wrong
There are lots of posts /topics on wet sumping on the forum.
It would be very difficult to start the bike with a sump full of oil
Since the bike started (easily?) and then accumulated oil , i'm guessing  that theres an issue with the scavenge ball at the bottom of the pickup pipe???

Hi John, thanks for your advice, the bike was last ridden 2 weeks ago, and certainly no evidence of wet sumping, never found more than a smallcup ful of oil in the sump.Just had the sump plate off complete, really unsure if the ball was stuck, cleaned out throughly with carb cleaner, then noticed when inserting the mesh filter plate the gasket was on the wrong face and realised I must have assembled it and covered the ball tube, and that's been like it since recommissioning in April, so hopefully issue solved, bike started easily abd ran first for 5 mins, oil return fine, removed sump plug and maybe egg cup worth of oil came out.
Need to get some fresh fuel and take her on a run.
It's the 2nd school boy error of late, I was struggling with the Tickle, took ages, then finally discovered the float was back to front, ie float is marked clearly front, never noticed that before on my Amal carb
