Frames - what fits in what?
« on: 13.05. 2007 11:57 »
Anyone who takes a look at my beeza will realize it's a custom not a restoration. So I'm looking it over and exploring exactly what I've got my hands on.
Looking at the engine and frame numbers it would appear this is an A7 shooting Star bottom end, with an A10 top end... in a B31 frame?
What I'm mainly wondering is (assuming I'm correctly interpreting the numbers) if this engine frame combination is a straight transplant or has some jiggery-pokery with the engine mounts been required?
At first inspection the mounts look original and unaltered.
These numbers match up with the Vehicle Registration Document.

Engine number - CA7SS 6***

Frame number - CB31 2***

(I've blurred out the last 3 digits to prevent any misuse.)

Cheers

The only difference between the B31 frame and the A7 frame was the kink in the bottom rail to go round the oil pump on the singles.

Despite the bad weather we had a good turnout, at least 110 bikes. I had just fitted my other magneto on the A7 and I'm not sure if it's working properly as I had trouble starting when hot a couple of times. I had it reconditioned by Tony Cooper but I'm starting to have doubts about the standard of workmanship  *sad2*

Fido... Are you really, really sure? I have heard on a number of other forums that this bloke's reputation is rock solid! Would be worth while rechecking.

I have a spark tester thing that goes between the cap and the plug and flashes when there's a spark. At times there was little or no flashing.......
