installed the rocker shaft & took the bike for a trial run 5 weeks back. Just got on to the main road 2 km away when the clutch stopped working & the kick spring broke.Got the bike back home & opened up the gear box cover & clutch cover.
The supposedly "original" operating rod had a big hole at either end & was obviously not hardened.Got a length of En 19 & induction hardened the ends to about 50 RC. Decided to replace the friction plates too but none available here for the dry clutch. Ultimately took off the old inserts & replaced them with cork. Will now try & run the clutch without the housing so that oil can get to the cork. Keep your fingers crossed. Just awaiting the kick spring which I have given to a workshop to make
NEVER A DULL MOMENT
Take care

Hi Andy
Nice to hear from you. My son & I have also been running a bike tour company in India since 1995 using Enfields.I dont know if youve been to our site @ventureonwheels.in Yes theres lots of company's doing this out of Delhi, one cheaper than the other & its totally screwed up the market. We actually try & cater to the born again bikers whove come back into biking after having left it for the rat race & can now get back with a vengeance. Not that we dont encourage the younger lot too. Where do you live nowadays?
What did you call your company? We actually do the whole of India dependant on the season. Summers its Ladakh, Himachal, Uttranchal & the North East. Winters its Rajasthan, South India, Kerala etc.
I assume youve been to Pune since you mention the ashram. We stay in Koregaon Park a short walk away from the Ashram. If you ever do come to India you are most welcome to come & stay  with us & we can exchange notes. Incidentally, I rode my Super Rocket back to India from UK in 1965 & in 1964 did a trip in North Africa on the Super Rocket. We rode down through france, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco to Marakesh & across the Northern tip of the Sahara to Algeria , Tunisia . Still have the 1961 Super Rocket which is next in line for restoration after the Flash is done ( or rather WHEN the Flash is done )
What bikes do you have? Do keep in touch & take care
Anji

motorcycle tours international,we did alot of bussiness with madann motors, but in 2000 we had a nightmare with the floods in himacheal and had a very stressfull time trying to keep 14 customers safe,so i gave it up and madann motors didnt send my last shipment,so i'd had enough, may return one day,

Andy,

Reading your post about the near catastrophic tour, I was curous to know what "Madaan Motors" was about. I was amused to find this link:
www.madaanmotorsthief.com . It's an amusing story (to me, at least), and I wonder if it doesn't explain your last shipment that wasn't sent.

Yes, I know Arun from Madaan Motors for many years. He was also tied up with some German company called I think Asia Bike tours ???
but for the past 2 years this has also slowed down.He is currently concentrating on exporting Enfields & parts for classic bikes. How come he held up your shipment?
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with him & also the floods. Where did you get stuck. Was it somewhere near Wangtu, when the Chinese let out the flood waters at Parichuu in Tibet into the Sutlej.
