To Sorn or not to Sorn?

The MoT ran out on my A7 a few days ago and the tax runs out tomorrow. The weather is lousy at the moment, it is snowing. I don't fancy riding it up into the hills to the MoT garage but feel under pressure to do so in order to get the tax disc. Should I just Sorn it for a few days until I'm ready to take it or could I risk just leaving it in the garage untaxed?

I think there are hefty penalties for not sorn-ing a four wheel vehicle and likely DVLC would want to enquire about a unlicensed motorcycle too. It's a bit risky and I think I'd sorn it for peace of mind. You can do this online although I still prefer to go to the post office and have a receipt for my efforts, crazy when you think that the historic road licence is free anyway.

I forgot to do my Z1 a few years ago, 4 weeks after tax ran out, had a nice letter from a chap whose parents weren't married. Cost me £50. No warnings or anything.

Sounds like their pretty tight over there. In NSW, OZ you get renewal papers 1 month before due, then a few weeks after. After 3 months if not renewed another letter requesting the plate back. No fees or charges.
The lucky country.
Cheers
