Oil Pressure

Hi All, This is my first request for help on the Forum. My 1951 Golden Flash Plunger, (which I bought on my 15th birthday 53 years ago), has just been resurrrected after being stored for 15 odd years. I pulled the timming side cover off, cleaned the oil tank dismantled the oil pipes down to the pump & cleaned the oil relief valve. It started 1st kick. My question is, how long should I run it with out oil flow back to the tank?

If it's the same setup on swinging arm models, take off your sump plate and give the pickup tube a good dose of solvent and compressed air to make sure the pickup tube and ball hasn't stuck closed.

                      1 minute max. Drop the sump as Wilko said, there should be heaps after 1 minute. Next check will be pump.

Rather than run the engine and wait for oil to return. A less traumatic method for the engine is to remove the spark plugs and put it in gear. Then just take the bike for a walk/push up your road and back and watch for the oil to return.
