BSA A10 Speedo

Chaps

I have recently purchased a 1960 Golden Flash (strange name for a bike that is blue and black) which is in pristine condition.

The only problem is the speedo.

The needle shows the speed being travelled and the small journey mileage recorder works fine. However the total recorded mileage is stuck on 000039. Whilst this is not a disaster, I would like to get it fixed.

My question is  ... is this DIYable or am I better sending it off to an expert.

Regards

Mick

Mick,

I don't know if I've had the chance to welcome you to the forum, but, uh, welcome! Speaking for everyone, all the photos possible, of the bike and of the technical issues, are always enjoyed.

If you are comfortable with tinkering inside of clocks, I beleive it may be DIYable. Worst case, you could look at the workings and see if you can identify the problem, then decide for yourself if you wish to tackle it.

If you go to the following link, you will see some pictures I took of the inside workings of mine, including how I unscrewed the bezel. http://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php/topic,680.0.html

If you go the following link, you will find further links to some instructional materials. http://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php/topic,1490.msg10158.html#msg10158

Good luck,

Richard L.

Welcome to the forum. Mick!

Actually, the optional color of the Golden Flash in 1951 was a very handsome golden beige all over, so the name is certainly appropriate. Regrettably. the color showed dirt and grime too readily, and it was dropped later.

Good luck with the speedo.

I find it unusual that chronos came out anti-clockwise when all they had to do was run the drive at the wheel in reverse. I have never seen one?C11's and girder M20's had a left hand drive with reverse drive gears?
