New to BSA
« on: 10.07. 2010 22:21 »
:! Hello and nice to meet you all, I am new to this forum and ownership of a BSA, having recently been given a BSA 650, 1953, Golden Flash (mainly in boxes) It was black and chrome in colour and was initially fitted with a side car. (however now does not exist). I have three other bikes and have welcomed this one into the family with the purpose of its resurection back onto the road. My main problem however is that I have no idea what the actual bike in detail, should look like, the previous owner also cannot recall, after it has has languished in his back garden for the last 18 years!. Does anybody know where I can get a parts manual for this bike from and detailed picture of its components in situ. I have tried E Bay etc and had some reply from sellers with no real answers- I have also purchased a Haynes A7 500 PUBLISHED IN 1973, and A10 650 Owners Workshop Manual and Building  Budget Brits by Mike Brown. What other books literature are worthy of purchase ? I have restored classic cars befors but this is my first bike restoration so would really welcome any help.

G'day BikeMad, Welcome.
Lots of info here http://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php/topic,454.0.html amongst others. Parts lists can quite often be found on ebay.
Yours will be a very nice bike to ride when finished. Take your time and ask any questions you need to.
Cheers

Bikemadinspain (I'm guessing that's not your real name),

Welcome here.

I think most major parts suppliers could sell you a spares book (often a photocopy). Here is a link to Basmotor, in Sweden, who lists the book as their part number SP37 for about EURO 19. Unless you speak Swedish, you will want to choose English as the language.

http://www.basmotor.se/eng/index.html

Follow the "Books" pull-down to "BSA Spares".

Having said this, before you buy the book(s), the year amd model of the bike should be verified. To save you some searching on this (because several members have the model number charts at hand) perhaps just tell us the frame number (usually on the vertical part of the steering headstock) and the engine number, at the top of the left side of the crankcase right where the crankcase meets the barrels.

Good luck. Take a picture of the mess in a box, so we can share the fun as it grows up.

Richard L.
