The paperwork that comes with the bike states "despatched to Claude Rye 29th march 1956" in polychromatic silver beige.

nice looking bike

is it my eyes, but it looks like one down pipe fitted and then the shot of the other side appears to have onr down pipe fitted *conf*

the red looks nice but I love the original colour it was painted in, they really suit  polychromatic beige

I cant see anyhting amiss but then Im far from an expert , is that a goldie silencer you have

Your eyes are fine ! Downpipe has afew dents and its fitted with some
sort of megaphone pipe.
The plan is to get the mag rebuilt and try to get some miles out on her
this year and then into a full restoration in the winter, and its going back
to the correct colour  ;)
From what i know it is fitted with a later front end but again i'm not an expert
far from it ! I know very little about them but learning fast  *smile*

Those meggaton/meggaphone silencers... if you can really call them silencers! hahahah sound really nice, I'm currently trying some out on my A10, they are very loud.

In general the bike looks very good, although the front mudguard makes the wheel look very little. I think that is the only fault, but it's a good idea to get some miles in before the re build.

thanks wacky

ill cancel that appointment with specsavers *smile*

ive got to get new silencers for mine and after pricing everything im seriously considering siamese pipes and a goldie look silencer, its easy to change these things back in the future so its not taking anything away from the bike

im pleased your going back to the original colour , not that theres anything wrong with red and its your choice what colour you have

but the original colour really sets them off

your right to get whats left of the summer before stripping it as it will give you a feel of what you need to do as well as giving you a chance to enjoy the bike

Looks nice Wacky. A good start for a winter project. It is a good idea to give it a good few miles before winter too see if the engine needs to come apart. If it were me I would change the colour to beige and also srpray the mudguard stays the same colour.
Not sure if it is my eyes or the photo angle but the front guard seems to be a different radius to the wheel - also seems to be a lot of clearance under the rear guard. The tyres seem to be a quite low profile making it look as though the wheels are less diameter than they should be.
I think it would look nice with new twin pipes and goldies - that is what I did to mine and it sounds really nice although the short megas you have at the moment probably sound pretty good.
Enjoy riding her until the winter - probably time to tidy up the workshop (if it is any thing like mine) and start getting the bits together so it is all there ready so you do not have interruptions waiting for parts to arrive.
Looking forward to seeing some "pics of work in progress".

Both mudgaurds are plastic items which will be in the bin as soon as i can
find some new ones to fit, Should the frame be black or the same golden colour
as the bike on a 56 model ? Front wheel has the full width brake set up which I
belive is wrong for the age ? back wheel I think is correct but i may be wrong ?

ill be corrected by the more knowledgeable if im wrong but I seem to remember the frame being beige as well on a flash

I didnt know you could get plastic guards, they do give you time to source the correct ones and still enjoy the bike

Congratulations and commiserations.  I think you've done well to get a complete runner, even if it's not 100% correct.  While the front and rear brakes were originally the all-alloy ariel hubs, the later hubs you have on there probably work better (though some have gotten good results from the ariel hubs).  And yes, '56 models were all PCB...or the optional black.
