whot have i bought ! help please

hi , im new here, mike from somerset, just picked up a new project it a plunger a10  about 60% complet been that way for a long time. its fitted with a 1953 motor but the frame number has a r insted of s for springer . did these frames change at all is there any other way to date it ? i also have a petrol tank that seems to fit the frame but not with the engine fitted ie the tank has a flat bottem all i know its a bsa tank. any help please !

Sounds like something is off.  No "R" was ever used in the frame number that I've ever heard of.  Here is a list of numbers for I.D. purposes:

Mike when the spring frames were introduced in 1949 the rigid frames were stamped with a R. If yours has a R but is a sprung frame it means one half of the frame has been changed at some time.

Can you let us know the frame number and possibly a photo of the tank so we can identify it.

hi guys, thanks for your replys! brian yours is just whot i was wounding as the number is so well stamped it is za7 r #### it also so has the fork leg to take the 7 inch wheel and the ear type lamp holders also early ? try to get soom pics of tank thanks .adrian good to here some one quite close, im near to ilminster .
