Mike, im putting a 52 motor in a 48 frame (the earlier all welded type) and the only problem I've come up against is the front engine mounting plates...not quite figured out the problem yet as im not 100% sure what plates I have... but the gearbox mounts and lower engine mount line up fine.

You could keep the original number if it hasnt been realocated to another vehicle, but even if it has you should be able to get a age related plate no problem.

Have a look at this chaps A10 HERE...you will see he has hardtailed his plunger frame if you cant get hold of a rigid rear end....depends how original you want it to be.

Trickytree, the front engine mount plates on the 48 longstroke engine are different to the later plunger mounts. You may have to find some longstroke ones to fit the 52 engine into a 48 frame.

Hi terry...I just popped out to the garage and fished out the plates I have. As you can see they dont fit the plunger cases at all.

Mike, sorry for hijacking your thread but its sort of relevant if we can determine what mounting plates you need. Its not to important for myself as I can just make some up.

Can anyone ID these plates??

Cheers, Paul.

Paul,
They would be long stroke plates.
The plunger plates are easily identified as they have a reinforcing plate welded inside over one of the top holes.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forum. I am building a 1949 rigid A7 having started with a load of bits sourced from autojumbles etc. I see that there is a later 2 part rigid frame on EBay at the moment but it already seems to be on the expensive side.
