First Ride !
« on: 03.10. 2011 07:59 »
I have just returned from my first ride after a recent rebuild and 10 years in storage and had to share the moment on the forum as who else would appreciate the occasion.  The sun was shining and the country side fresh after spring rains yesterday.  The engine purring along in top gear with a few winding sections of road to remind me of the torque produced by an A10 . Allowing you to drop down to near idle then pull away out  of corners with out having to change down a gear.  I have added some pictures it is not a concours  example of a Golden Flash  but still nice to ride.

Hello. I take it the name is "Carey", so:

Carey,

That is a great and fun looking bike. I know the feeling of having few others around to appreciate the moment (thus, my exhausting number of posts here). While it might just be my unfamiliarity with other bikes, I, too, am impressed with the available torque and power from my A10, considering how much weight is has to carry with me on it.

It took me a moment to figure out why you were talking about "spring rains" in October, then, felt a bit stupid when I saw you are down under.

Richard L.

Good job, congrats. And the modifications are done with style.

As I have said before in the 50,s and 60,s the first thing to do was to modify your bike to make it look different. Today most people want to see them "concours" (except me) so it,s nice to see your selected mods - nice one.

G'day Carey,
I see you got the alloy head and concentric problem sorted. Great time of year down here between showers. We'll have to meet up for a beer or ten. Which club you in?

Looks great, one question I have, with the concentric carb on your A10, are you able to plumb into the original air filter you have ? regards Howard

Hi Carey,
Congratulations.Your bike looks like a great individual project to me. What is the kickstart off? It looks 70s japanese to me and really tucks away well.
Went out on the Super Rocket today for the first time in a few weeks so came back to look at the forum.Running really well.Went out to a favourite bike meet place , had a lovley ride and then coffee and chat with some real frienly guys. One with a real ratty 650 AJS which was fab.You just dont see bikes like that too often these days.
Anway,I hope you continue to enjoy your bike.
Cheers .Mark.

Hi Howard
No  I am not using any air filter.  It was difficult to find the space to fit a carby with this alloy head I have a type 29 and mono block but did not have the space for either thus I went for the concentric. This still require modifying the intake manifold to resemble that of the original cast iron head with a more horizontal intake compared to the  downward angle of the original alloy head  but it still sits higher in the frame attached are some pics  for anyone  interested

It's a lovely bike mate, I enjoy mine every time I go for a ride also.  Mine is not concouse either by any stretch but it is very clean, oil tight and I never hesitate going for a spin when I have the time.

Cheers,
Dave.
