Guy.  I use these people, found them to be good and actually do a quick mail order. All the best Goldy                                             http://www.magneto.co.uk/spare-parts.html

Goldy,

Do you know the correct part number for the magneto caps? I have a 1955 A10 Gold Flash (the Gold one) The serial number on my magneto is K2F   AC ∅55  42248E

I'm on the Magneto site and there are several listed. I'm pretty sure the 90 degree caps/pick ups  are correct and are listed as Pick-up (90 Degree) (810)
Stock Number 810 - Original Part Number 9P -

I should probably replace the points while I'm at it as well,

Guy

I don't have problems with any of the pickups on the market but there was a time when some of the new pickups were fitted with poor quality brushes. Unfortunately there are still some of these poor quality pickups being sold as 'old stock' by dealers who should know better! I always use the brushes supplied by Sean Hawker in Bristol; these brushes are absolutely spot-on, correct grade carbon and very light springs - just like original Lucas. If you buy new pattern pickups look carefully inside the part where the brush fits as sometimes the plastic moulding has flowed over the metal conductor and needs scraping out with a small screwdriver; the plastic is quite brittle so it only takes a couple of seconds.
The angled pickups are LU458865/6, the universal pickups are listed by Wassell as replacements for LU458367,458368. You need the universal pickups on magnetos fitted with manual advance and retard as they reach over the adv/ret plunger casting on the cam ring housing.

Unless I'm mistaken, the A10 has the angled pick-ups so the leads miss the drip tray.

Thanks Trev,
My A10 is exactly the same as the one on your profile picture, although not a shiny...so your any advise you offer is spot on.

Guy,
The auto magneto uses pick-ups 458865 & 458866 which are right & left handed angled.
The manual magneto uses a pair of 45190 which are hex headed universal, i.e multi angle fitting.
The choice is yours.
Your magneto is the original fitted to the bike, or at least the tag is!
 Trev.
