A10 Piston
« on: 04.10. 2008 15:11 »
Hi Guys,

I've recently had some fun with my 1960 Golden Flash when the head of an exhaust valve broke and damaged the top of a piston.  Does anybody have a s/h flat topped piston (+060) for sale?  I think it is a 7.25:1.  Even a pair of 6.75:1 (concave) pistons will do.

Thanks in anticipation.

Beezageezauk.

I am pretty sure I do have a set of +60 7.5s.
I think they had mild scoring on the bottom of the skirt though, Having a cuppa at the moment but I'll have look when I get back to the shed.
Will see if I can get a picture
BTW where are you

I'll try to post a couple of photos to show the extent of the damage.  The incident happened on the way to the BSAOC International Rally on the Isle of Man and the engine was sort of repaired "on site" using an odd piston.  It was a good enough repair to allow the bike to be ridden home to North East England.

That's true!!  But she don't have a broken neck that had nothing to do with overheating.

Hi  Beezageezauk
I do indeed have a set of plus 60s, low compression but as I thought there is a bit of scoring on the skirts, the bike was running fine with them in.
If you want I can post a picture, if you think you could use them then I would find out cost of postage, yours for postage cost and if they work ok send me what you think they are worth at a later date.

Well, the forum came up trumps with my request. *smile*

Thanks a lot Bill, I received the pistons today and they are just what I was hoping for.

What the members don't know is that the temporary piston I fitted was a 6.75:1 and the original one was 7.25:1.  The bike still ran ok but at least I can now repair it properly.

Thanks again.
