Altette Horn

I picked up this horn at a swap meet today for $35,  & as a added bonus it works ..

Wozza,
                 It is probably 12V and is not the correct one for your bike.
Can be rewound to 6V.
I convert these to motorcycle type by fitting a new coil, bezel and acorn nuts & studs.
Some bikes used the painted bezel and plain screws.

Yeah thanx Trev it is 12 Volt...   which is ok coz the bike is being converted to 12Volt as well.. 
I'll replace the bezel, acorn nuts/studs & hanging bracket...
Just thought @$35 I got a bargain..

                Of course you are going 12V, how could I forget?
Here is what swinging arm BSAs used from 1954-7 and on non nacelle bikes until 1963.
$35 was a good price nowadays, time was when you could pick them up for $10.
The bracket for the horn is the straight one with a double set to clear the generator.

          It depends on which horn you want them for.
If you want the set for the horn with the corrugated tone disc, as I posted, they are available from Classic Fasteners in South Australia. They are domed set screws.
The acorn nuts and stud sets for the earlier models are available from Taff the Horn in Wales. Check his web site and e-mail him. He has many parts available.

Thanks Trev,
                    the one that I have on my 55 Road Rocket has the corrugated disc but has slotted screws which I think is incorrect. I will contact classic fasteners.

Mark,
             Check that your horn is the correct voltage for your bike.
A lot of the corrugated disc horns with slotted screws are 12V from Morris Minors etc. Usually has "Lucas" & "Altette" stamped in the bezel which a bike horn shouldn't have.

        horn is 6v and works well and I'm fairly sure that it is the correct one for my bike. I purchased it from a chap at the Scoresby swap here in Melbourne who restores them and he checked the Lucas book that had all the specs for the different bikes and made sure that it had the correct disc, bezel, bracket etc but I've always felt that it should have acorn nuts instead of screws.

               I restore them here in Newcastle and you are correct in your feelings. The pictures I posted are of the swinging arm model.
Interesting that they were painted silver with a black bracket.
A point re the bezel, it should have a slight raised lip on the inner circumference, probably to minimise water entry. Thr repro ones don't have the lip.
