front brake judder

'59 Goldflash, standard SLS brake.

I had a front brake judder which I traced to excessive play between the backplate and the fork lug.
Is this common and is it OK just to shim it as I've done, or should I get some ali-welding done to build it up?

certainly been posted before and I seem to remember that the cure mentioned then was exactly what you've done regards BobH.

Hi.
Happened to me, on both std brake plate and replacement TLS, alloy against steel is the cause, I have used packing strip, but unsure about approval for MOT, so had my alloy welded for secure fix.

I had the same problem but the mot tester just pointed it out and passed my bike with no advisories. Made an L shaped packing piece and problem sorted. He gave me an advisory for a slack chain on my other bike so he's not lenient. The chain in fact wasn't slack, would have been on a modern bike but not a royal enfield but just let it go.

Don't forget to tighten the big nut on the spindle. If this is loose, the brake plate can rattle which will wear the lug all the quicker.

I did this the same as you on my triton and it passed the m.o.t every year and I had no more problems.Thanks John
