Interesting centrestand in best picture 2013

you have a very interesting centrestand on your beautiful rigid in best picture 2013. Is it more effective than a normal one? why did you choose it? it certainly looks striking. Or is that the standard stand for a longstroke?.

           That is the stand used for a short time on the first A7s. Reputed to be interesting when the ratchet failed.

Thanks Gav, yes that is the factory stand, it actually slides all the way up the center shaft of the frame. I believe it was only done for the first few hundred 1947 A7's produced, and then as Trev has mentioned, was known to be quite an issue hahaha
some reports say they fell down as people were riding them., I know for a fact it is a pain to lift bike (straight upwards) to get on stand, and before some minor adjustments, was quite easily dislodged in the lock and would fall over :/

How is the stand lowered; I've often wondered? Is there a foot operated lever somewhere?

Ok slightly hark to explain. But ill give it a try. Will also try add more pics tomorrow
the main stem of the stand slides the whole way up into center tube of frame, is spring loaded (to push down) and has notches in it. To lift the bike on stand, you have to push the lever (photo to come) put your foot on stand and lift upwards. Quite awkward!!!!  And then to lower bike. Simply push lever again.
Its a pain as the bike needs to lifted squarely, and once up, has been known to fall over if bike is knocked and lever moves. Also when these bikes were ridden it was a common then for the stand to shoot down whilst riding!!! Can see why they only made a few 100 of this style before going to the standard style we all know!!
