I need to replace the rims on the A7. Hidden away in the back of the shed are 2 X 18" X 40 spoke wm2 akront alloys that would lace onto the hubs nicely. My old A65 had 18" rims (i think) and there seems to be a much greater range of tyres in this size. Has anyone run their A10's or A7's on 18" tyres?? Is this a bad idea??

I run an 18" on the back but on the 19" front. Idon't know what the tyre choice for the front would be like.
aesthetically you may find you need to adjust mudguard positions once fitted.

Don't forget that if you change the size of your rear wheel your speedo reading will be all to pot!

At the time it was difficult to get 19" back tyres. I was limited to skinny TT100's more suitable for a front tyre. I wanted something chunkier to fill out the back. My Starfire ran 19" front 18" rear standard, as did my mates A65. so it seemed a logical choice. It handles just great.

That is a very handy looking machine you have there. I get a kick seeing bikes that have evolved over time to suit their rider, and yours really appeals to me.
As Stratcat mentioned, did you bother solving the speedo problem or just use a wider rim and a tyre with a higher profile
and what do the local wallopers and the neighbours think about your exhaust note?

Thanks for your kind comments.
To answer your questions:

There are VW Beetle tailpipes mounted on the end of the exhaust (same diameter as the pipe) Its not that loud actually but it does twitter on idle like a Beetle.

I got the guy who restored my tank to fit the rack as he had to cut the bottom out of the tank anyway.

I didn't get the speedo regeared, because as I recall the tyre size I'm using now, was near as dammit, the same height as what came off it, the original being a lower profile tyre.

I have the back wheel off at the moment. If I get a chance tonight I'll measure the tyre height and give you my rim spec as well.

Hei Olev,
I just popped out and checked. Extremely worn out Dunlop Gold Seal K70 4.00x18 stands 66.5cm tall. Try comparing that against whatever you have on your bike now.
Its fitted to an AKRONT 18"-2.15-40-S-1094 E
