I've gone ahead and ordered a tee-shirt with Richards circle around the cut-away engine on back and front. I'll let you know how it looks.
i think black would be far better than white oil and white dont go well together plus beer and tea stains

Oil? I don't intend to get oil on my tee-shirt!  *whistle*

Good one a10gf, that'll get the grey matter working.
Change Greybeards name to test pilot! Will that be a screen print or vinyl?
At my clubs show on Sunday there will be a trade stall from a T-shirt printing mob. I'll show him Greybeards design.
Black for me. I've never owned a white anything!
Cheers

I've made a negative version of the engine that combined with Richards red circle might look ok on a black background.

GB,

I'm digging it. I wonder if it would pay to use a three-continent approach with regard to getting them made. Are you using a generic on-line supplier? Seems a lot of shipping money could be saved by Aussie members if they didn't have to pay postage from the UK. It wouldn't be quite as bad to the US.

As for colors, I would be doing the white engine on black and the black engine on yellow, maybe (because I like the visibility). Is the engine being screened on?

Regarding oil, as long as it's motor oil, it's a badge of honor on a white (or yellow) shirt. Grease from a taco, not so much.

EDIT: Hey, can I get one of those shirts that says, "I'm Graybeard"?

Certainly not; that would be too confusing! Anyway I've just changed my username!

I'm just testing the design by ordering from an online printers, (Vistaprint). The shirt appears fairly cheap until you get to checkout and they add postage! I haven't approached a printer for a bulk price.
An embroidered patch might be popular.

I think we need to have a poll to judge demand.

Stop!... Wait!... Let's not get ahead of ourselves! Lets consider this!...
Oh, I know you'll hate me for it, but I'm going to have to throw a designer's spanner in the works, sorry! (And please accept that I have respect for the work already submitted). BUT...

As a Graphic Designer I spent half a lifetime having to implement hopelessly dysfunctional, amateurish logos into professional looking high profile design projects, - many of these so-called logos probably started off as the client's niece's absent-minded scribble. Painful. Zero credibility. Zero functionality.

The proposed design might look fine on the face of it BUT, a Graphic Designer didn't do it, and it has various major problems as a piece of graphic design:

1: It is not distinctive enough. (Imagine... we could substitute say, a Triumph engine, or even a Velocette engine, nobody would even notice the difference unless they knew exactly what to look for). - It MUST be distinctively an instantly recognisable BSA parallel twin image yes? Unarguable.

2: Technically, an image with such an abundance of fine lines does not lend itself to easy, crisp, good reproduction in a wide range of uses and media, from screen images, to engraved items, through printed items, even sewn badges. Can you imagine the engine cutaway image as an engraved/enamelled keyring? Sorry, it obviously just wouldn't work would it?

3: The visual 'form' of the logo, an image within a circular banner carrying the title wording, is hackneyed, very ordinary, and not at all distinctive. (That's the KEY thing a logo must be... Distinctive). Plus the wording would be too small and totally illegible in many circumstances.

I know at this stage it's no big deal, but maybe in 30 years this logo design could be quite important, and if we get it right from the 'off' we'll be ahead of the game.
If we're going to do this, lets do it right.

Please don't take offence at my criticism, it is meant positively. Hopefully people can see the sense in my comments.

(Oh and remember, a committee designed horse ends up as a camel!) Too many cooks etc...

...As a Graphic Designer...
Joolstacho,
I'm just trying to push the idea of a distinctive logo for this forum forward. My idea was so that members could recognise each other at motorcycle meetings and also encourage 'BSA A' owners to join up.
I'm sure you know what you are talking about. Can I persuade you to get involved with this? I have already suggested that other forum members may have their own ideas.

And also quite in keeping with the age of our bikes, and looks good to me.
Your comments are welcome as you have expertise in this area and the point about sewn badges could apply of we went down that road, however we want Tee's for us and doubt we need key fobs.
No offence intended or taken

G'day Jools.
I do understand (and agree with) your points.
The forum name needs to be bigger and possibly (as Greybeard already mentioned) the motor drawing in full (not cut away) would work better.
I haven't got an artistic bone in my body and now you've shown your hand as a graphic doodler, what do you suggest?
Cheers.

Well, I'm not a graphics designer so I would love to see more submittals to the game. At the risk of being hackneyed, ordinary and indistinctive  *whistle*, I have taken a shot at something a bit different. If this has any legs I can make adjustments (or burn my computer) if anyone cares to offer suggestions.
