Overheating
« on: 14.06. 2009 17:03 »
I started a differnet thread re my tightening GF. It could be it is overheating, is there anyway to reduce the combustion temerature (fuel mix, timing) or perhaps get the oil to cool the engine a little better?

Really appreciate the great feedback on the other thread as well - thanks to all!

Nigel,

In order to open myself up to ridicule (one member suggested, due to my "misguided ideas") I will offer that an engine running hot due to fuel mixture or other combustion issues shoud not seize. That's why there is clearance between pistons and bores. (Aluminum expanding faster and more than iron when heat is applied.)

Further, referring to my previous post, I will modify that to say "it seems" there is no catastrophic damage.

Richard,

I am inclined to agree with you, provided there is suffent room for the pistons too expand. It may be the bores are too tight and or the pistons can't cool quick enough which could be poor oil supply. Looks like the only solution is to have the head and barrels off!
