Glorious sunshine, so bikes were out of the garage.
W650 - pumped tyres up and fired up pretty much first time after 5 months in the garage.
GF - changed the main fuel tap due to leakage and failed reserve extension tube. All looks good so far with no leaks. Soldered nipple onto new clutch cable, and routed it correctly this time after the chain chewed through the last one (used my solder pot for the first time - spot on). I also added a second nipple to the clutch cable before soldering the first one. This proved useful because I had a bit of slack on the cable so just slid up the second one. Changed the plugs, cleaned the slip ring, earth ring, checked HT leads, checked tappets/points.
I'd got a bit fed up with the wires for the engine cut off and oil valve switch thingy that attach to the mag. They were scruffy and the wires tended to get mangled when disconnecting. So, I found a mini crocodile clip with a crimp-able bit on it. Attached the wires to a male bullet connector and plugged it into the croc clip. Clip goes onto the maggie and the nut tightened a bit to make sure it doesn't move. When I need to get to the points again, loosen the nut and unclip.
Couple of things though. When I turned on the new tap, petrol came flooding out of the spigot on the carb. Now I understand that a stuck float may flood the carb, but I didn't expect it to come out of a pipe which is supposed to be fuel tight?? Also, bike was a git to start, although months off the road and a bit of stale petrol may not have helped. After 10 kicks, she spluttered into life and ran really nicely.
When the next decent day comes, I'll have to check for that weird running issue again, although no sign of it at present apart from the starting problems.
Feeling very fulfilled that both bikes are ready for the road.
Oh, and stuff the l/h fork seal, I'll just top it up with oil every ride.
