So true Rex. So risky.
Off the stands, straddle the beast, good prod with follow through, into gear and AWAY.
But that's 115kg in bare feet and Speedos talking  . . .
I know and understand other fitter lighter more healthy underfed people have to compromise, but AT LEAST use the centre stand! *smil*

One of many in our riding group visiting your place this Sunday for the Moto Retro run is known for kicking up his (difficult to start) A10 on the leaning side stand.
I wonder if this will be the time that that poor frame lug finally cries enough..?

Hope not Rex!
I shall be on a baby bike this coming w/end after a serious mega-month of May on vertical twins: one of my LE Velos, because speeds are so low as you know  and there aren't many chances to get a proper day's ride on one of them these days.. . So obvs I wouldn't have a CLUE  what to do if a Big Boy broke his Big Boy's bike!
Let's hope the beast starts at least. I shall be looking out for an 'incident' - ta for the warning!

Bummer, that's too bad Catz.

The Brit bikes generally seem to be set up to lean over rather more than you'd think was ideal. I guess some can be accounted for by wear in the pivots and faces but my A65 has a ginormous great side stand that sweeps out and forward very reassuringly but then the bike seems to go over waaay too much before it settles. This in itself would be putting a lot of load through the stand and frame rail even without a seventeen stone weakling leaping up and down on the kick start *eek*

I HAVE to start the GF on the centrestand, just can't get enough weight through the kickstarter to turn her over, especially if I have to hold the bike at the same time.  Maybe if I were taller, heavier, stronger, etc, it'd work, but I ain't.

I did try once to start on the sidestand (being lazy).  The top of the stand crumbled like aged Cheshire cheese and I ended up leaning against Sue's car with the bike pinning me there.  Never trusted side stands again (except on the Kwaka which is solid as you like).

I make my own Sidestand from solid steel, work much better than all other available srab.
I can start on the sidestand with me on the  footrests and all lugage on the rear rack.
A big advatage is that I can swing it out by siting on the bike, stand up on the rests and get my leg easy over the lugage.

cheers Klaus

I bought one of those cheap Jiffy stands (1,1/8th) -it arrived today @ £27.95p
The actual lug on the stand comes threaded, so I ran a 8.5mm drill through the holes and they lined up quite nicely with the standard lug that's welded to the frame
I did run a grindstone around the shoulders of the stand lug just to help match the diameters.
I also used 2 longer bolts and put nuts on the inside - seems secure enough - time will tell !

Hi All,
I got a friend to get a sidestand that was intended to get fitted to a rigid B34 at Stafford show.
Its the roughest POS i have come across
The grooves that are supposed to clamp to the frame tube were hacked out by a blind man with an angle grinder *eek*
Its thrown in the scrap and i sent the owner off to find a kwacker sidestand

I have the T140 "long" sidestand on mine, fitted straight on, but having a late G series frame the side stand bracket thing was one piece and part of the frame when it left the factory.

Some Taiwan sweatshop pile of scrap..

Kwak ZX series sidestands are the way to go, but as you need a vertical engine/gearbox plate to mount it to, it's not easy on an A series.
