Wiring diagrame

Hi all, Can anyone point me in the direction of a wiring diagrame for my 1958 A10 cheers.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Here is a 61 wiring diagram (with genuine oil stains and fingerprints), and the 54 is here.

I may be missing something elementary here, but I have been looking at diagrams for the past hour while at the same time looking at the internals of my lighting switch and I can't for the life of me see where the speedo light / tail light get their feed from once the switch is moved around past post 5. i.e. to turn the pilot lamp or head lamp on.

As far as I can see, the only feed comes into this switch on post 3 (from the Ammeter) and therefore this can only provide a feed through the switch to either of the posts directly adjacent to it (2 or 4). There doesn't appear to be any way at all of a supply from post 3 ever reaching the speedo/tail light circuit on post 5.

I am sure that this is something really simple, but I am clearly missing it!

Mosin,
          If you have one of the Bakelite switches which is held with a spring clip, the early ones had an extended stud from terminal 5 and a bronze contact which connected to the centre of the switch and completed the circuit through it.
Later ones have the Bakelite centre and the circuit is internal.
Use a multi meter to prove the circuits.

Thanks for this Trev, I have checked the switch (a spring clip one) and there is was no continuity between post 5 and the switch centre. Nor was there any sign of anything that may ever have provided this continuity! I have now rectified this and for the first time have seen the light!

hope someone can help  i am a little confused   i am just wiring my 58 gf however i have just taken a look at this 61 diagram and it seems to be pos earth    should it not be neg earth ?  and or does that mean that my 58 should be pos earth?
any comments please

Ian,

A7 and A10 models were positive earth from 1951 onwards so a previous owner must have rewired your bike as negative earth.

And don't forget to put a cut-out wire to the magneto if you are making your own harness. It is not shown on the wiring diagram and is white.

If you are rewiring you should consider adding inline fuses
1960 Super Rocket, owned since 1966, back on the road 2012 after being laid up for 29yrs.

 An easy way to do an in-line fuse is cut the wire and put a female spade connector on each end, and join it with a modern spade fuse of your choice...
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

You may wish to keep it as -ve earth, all additions such as LED, electronic ignition and gadgets etc are easier with -ve earth. I know its easy to swap polarity with normal setup but you normally have to opt for one or the other if you use an electronic regulator. My option would be (and is on my bikes) -ve earth.

Girls' fuses may be short wilko, and boy, don't some of us know it - but vehicle fuse(s) are essential, I reckon.
I quite like the re-settable ones with a button, so when you accidentally touch the wrong thing to the wrong thing, you don't have to go searching for another one of suitable rating. Just press the girlie bit and it comes back to life. I have them on various beasts (but not the memsahib).

my problem is now sorted , a new loom made with all new switch gear and hopefully no problems
and i have fitted a fuse just in case
