Got the rockers back on. Definitely no objects on the cam followers. I annealed the copper rocker gaskets and sprayed them with copper spray. 3 pushrods dropped in OK, took some time to locate the 4th. Bike back on the lift for todays effort.

Put my 6-spring clutch together today and it seemed almost too easy. There is a lot of fuss and negativity about the 6-spring - so what is the problem with them?

Took the Road Rocket out for shakedown test 2. Photo attached as previously promised. I did 20 miles on it on this occasion, enough to get it properly warm. It pinked under load, using the manual ATD cured it but I found I was using the ATD lever much more than normal so I've retarded the timing by about 0.75mm piston height. Part of the problem is I've got a big valve head, high compression pistons (8.5:1) and a 357 cam. With today's fuel that's pushing my luck. Having retarded the timing a smidge it is a lot better and hardly had to use the lever other than starting. The plugs look as though it is running a bit lean, but I've already got RGS jets so I could go a bit richer by lifting the needle but, beyond that I haven't got many options. The carb venturi matched the head but one option is to go down 1/32 on the size of the carb. These are all typical shakedown issues which I'll work my way through. I could even fit a 10TT9 which would be interesting.

Yesterday I pulled both the new premier 930's off for closer inspection. The one giving trouble had a tiny bit of swarf in the pilot jet. Set them up on my jig and got both fuel heights spot on. Roared into life on 2nd kick and sounds a lot better. This morning a bit of fine tune and a test ride.

I understand that the 6 spring clutch used on swinging arm machines was inferior to the six spring version used on the Plunger frame bikes. This has led to a generally bad press for both 6 spring clutches. The clutch on my Plungie was excellent. During the time I owned the bike I did not have to change anything apart from the basket rollers.

Phew!!!  I got the bike on the lift and went to set the tappets. After rotating the engine a little, there was a loud "snap". Oh Sh-- thought I . Fortunately the left intake pushrod wasn't in the cup and had slipped off. So off with the rocker box again and checked for damage - None. So reset everything and no further issues. Got the tappets set and starting to reassemble all the peripherals. Having stuffed up the order several times in the past, I now reassemble in this order :

Assembly plan for peripherals.
1.   Fit the footrests completely and tighten. Make sure the footrests are at correct position.
2.   Fit the exhaust pipes.
3.   Fit the brake cross-over shaft and fit the splined lever at the cable end.
4.   Re-connect the brake cable.
5.   Reinstall the brake stop light switch.

Ok Multiple days and its taken way to long (other bikes jumping the queue so I could keep riding something). The A7 is back on the road, done a couple of test runs and she runs sweet and so far no leek from the rocker box (copper gaskets fitted). So next week, she is off to Weymouth for the VMCC touring week

Decided to fit the Lyta (type) tank I bought about 10 years ago! I saw this tank advertised for about £250 and thought it was a bargain, not sure if it is a genuine Lyta but not bothered really! Anyway, the RGS copy's tank sprung a leak a while ago and I've been running round with a nice red 1961 ish tank whilst trying to fix the other one. I realised yesterday that I have the ideal tank on the shelf gathering dust and a a perfect opportunity to check it doesn't leak etc. So, here it is and I'm dead chuffed with it. It does have a few minor scratches, but no dents and the rest of the bike isn't perfect anyway.

They are a work of art eh? I got mine direct from the ol' man at Lyta in Dartford way back. He was black with the alloy polishing, and the dingy workshop was lined with all his beautiful wooden handcarved plugs (moulds).
I've still got a letter on a lovely old classic letterhead from him, - BG Hitchisson.
(You'd hate me if I mentioned what I paid back in the early seventies!)

Got a few tasks over the weekend.  Fitting the oil valve switch (just waiting for more plumbing to arrive), trying to plug up oil leaks (got some thicker nitrile gaskets for primary and timing side), need to sort out the oil weep coming from the tank feed and return pipes/unions.  May need to look at the l/h fork oil seal but, at the moment, just making sure there's oil in it before a ride.  Otherwise, very happy with the way it's running.  It did about 260 miles a few weeks' ago and never missed a beat.

Sun's out for the next 10 days, hope to get out a couple of times at least (loads of house jobs to get through).

Working on the Lilac at the moment. The gearbox is out for some minor repairs to stop severe shuddering when I release the clutch. Turned out that the gearbox outlet shaft nut had fallen out. Also got the Beeza O/S as well trying to find out why the leccy start won't kick in. Why are we frigging around with old bikes? - geez they're unreliable.

Col i said that to my mate , WHY are we ????  the troubles they give us and how i now look at how much good weather ride time i get and when i do get out the roads are full of TANKS !!!  in one mile jams and the arrogant drivers { most of them } don't pull a little bit over to let me filter through i think my enjoyment of riding the things and working on them is very quickly sending me to sell the lot and buy another round of

Get the Berger special on the road and rattle the windows of all those tanks as you 'gently' filter through.   Sure, the roads are full of a**e h***s, but aren't we there to re-educate them!
