Maybe that should be a new topic 'What's the most unusual thing you've carried on your bike'.

As Berg's said, back in t' day, everything went on the back of the bike.  Amongst things for me were two huge newspaper bags over both shoulders, and another huge bag on the back seat of the YB100.  Obviously tents and sleeping bags, groceries, all sorts of packages including a large piece of art work which ended up wet around the edges (despatch riding), wood, etc, etc.

took betsy 2's oil filter off that i used to have on betsy before i fitted the spin on, didn't find anything metal but found crappy rubbery sludge that must have come from the chinesium made oil hoses marked OIL!!! *bash* then i started the plumbing and bracket to fit the spin on , a bit of alteration to do but tomorrow i will be unsoldering some fittings and using them for the new set up. i have put some sound proofing under the tank as a mk 1 try and will see what effect it has in due course, i have now opened the bar *yeah* *beer*

Finished building the NOVA 5-speed touring gearbox. When fitting the outer cover there was a mismatch between the NOVA parts and the BSA parts in that the teeth on the selector plate didn't align with the gaps between the dogs on the selector quadrant which meant I could only change up!. I suspect the fault lies with the NOVA camplate which has a gear welded to it which connects with the teeth on the selector quadrant. If the gear is welded only a couple of degrees out it will cause the selector quadrant to be in a slightly different position to the position of the original BSA quadrant, hence the misalignment. I got the Dremel out and the welder!. The selector plate is held in position by the return spring and the tang on the back of the selector plate which locates between the two legs of the return spring. By grinding a bit off the top of the tang and welding a blob on the bottom I managed to get the selector plate to sit a couple of mm higher and the teeth sit in the correct position, between the dogs on the selector quadrant. Job done!

Bergs, It's hard to tell from the photo and I don't want to be teaching granny and all that but if it was me I'd have another look at the u-bend in the last photo (red brackets, Berger Bodge Feather Pillow Build?) It looks like with the bend radius being too tight the hose is closing up / going oval about to close? Would it be worth putting in a length of solid tube with a proper U-bend in it?

I may be wrong and it might be the camera angle but I couldn't ignore it as the potential consequences could be messy at best... *eek*

I had a tightish bend like that and put a snug spring on it to stop the potential kink. *bright idea* *bright idea* *beer*

Hadn't ridden a bike since my stroke in March '24. I recovered everything pretty quickly, except for balance being only around 95%. As such I was concerned about riding - it's easy to take a side-step when walking, but when riding? Felt OK enough, after testing on a bicycle first, to take a ride today, so took the '58 Flash for a run. Forgotten how good it is - starts first piston and rides great. *smile*

G'day RD.
Great to hear your mobile again. Once mobile the bike does the balancing.
My balance has been very iffy since a kid when I lost everything inside my left ear. Combine that with no right eye and I wobble around everywhere until I'm on the bike!

Yep I've learned my lesson the hard way, soon as you chuck it a use comes up for it and you kick yourself. Don't throw anything away now!

well whoopsadaisey mk 1 spring inside wasn't long enough and produced a little kink where i put the clip ... but new thicker walled tube is on it's way and will have the new spring on the outside IF it kinks the kinky sod *whistle*. but baring  in mind the return to tank pipe on std bsa oil tanks only has a 1/8th hole in it inside the tank i know my kink or no kink on a 8mm bore tube will not cause a problem . now what is my kink,,,,,,,, answers on a post card please winner gets a black&tan *beer* BUT guess what? my sound proofing to stop me hearing the resonating tappet noise on betsy2's thin walled steel coffin tank is brill so i did the same with betsy's yonda tank and betsy is now so quiet it's unbelievable jeff  *woo*...........for those who know the saying. now wheres my black&tan and my kink  *dribble* ps never throw anything away and i should have borrowed more tube from work, talking of the stores at work my mate wanted some ptfe tape and couldn't believe the different thickness of my tapes all made in England back in the day .
