Just been out on a bit of a blast through the village and down the by-pass to test out the "new" speedo.
It works up to 60mph then starts playing up and down but when from 50 back is ok. Just waiting on some of that sewing machine oil that Klaus mentioned to see if that clears the problem.
6 miles or so.

Same with mine mate.  Pretty good up to 60-ish, then starts jumping between 60-65.  If I push it a bit further, it starts jumping between 65-70.  Mine has also received some judicious, light, oiling, but to no avail.  My unit was rebuilt by Russell Smalley, Chronometric Instrument Services in Nottingham.  Really nice bloke, knows his stuff.  I even travelled down to him at his invitation to see his setup.

Mmm, doesn't sound promising. I'll give it a go though.
Yes, i've been to Chronometric, he is a nice bloke, he checked my original speedo over for nowt and so i bunged him £20 and bought a new cable from him on top.

Those speedos and tachometer's have a lovely chronometric mechanism. The needle can only return to zero if the drive continues to be rotated - if you see one with the needle away from zero do not assume that the unit is faulty.

I soaked the mech of my bikes speedo in petrol and blew it clean with my airline. If you do the same, understand that petrol will dissolve the printing on the dial. I had to get a replacement dial plate. I bought a syringe of clock oil to lubricate the mech.

Also to be aware of is the Archimedes Screw effect whereby the movement of the speedo cable draws gearbox oil up toward the speedo.  For speedos that haven't been touched for a while, this can lead to a gunking up of the movement. *eek*

Lovely mechanism though.  Perhaps being slightly incongruous in relation to the bike??

Been a bit off the bikes lately, what with operations, property repairs, a 150 hrs kitchen rebuild and a couple of biggish (for me nowadays, at least) boat jobs.
So took out the 60deg vee for a run a couple of days ago. As I said, been busy of late and after a stroke 18 months ago & a couple of ops since not felt robust enough till now for a bike like that. The engine controls well, but it's a bit of a beast. More of a handful that my Firestorm, but the A10 frame handles so well (twin discs up front help) - better than the featherbed in my old Triton - and the plunger gearbox / clutch are a delight to use. The roller plunger detent certainly makes the changes smooth. All in all a real pleasure to ride, and the pulling power of that engine is so addictive. Must give it another blast soon, then maybe the GF. *smile*

The latest - or the one I was riding the other day? The one I'm working on is nearly complete. Runs now I've sorted the gearchange and oil return. Currently on lift whilst I design an electric starter (don't kick anything since my hip replacement) so won't be on the road for a few months. Attached is the one I was riding (I put it on here a while ago). Never dyno'd it but comparing it with the Weslake special and Firestorm, I'd guess 70 brake plus.

Our very own Allen Millyard??  I've seen some of Allen's creations and they're mind boggling.

Hats off to RD though!  Doing that sort of stuff is like asking me to play a cors anglais whilst having a tooth filled.

Respect.
