BSA headlight??

Hi,
I've had this headlight for some time and would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on which bike its from (came with a load of BSA stuff but that doesn't mean much I know.... ).

Its got a 7" Lucas glass but the lighting switch and ameter are off centre by quite a bit? Could these be modifications (added later?) - surely it wouldn't have been made like this would it?? Pics below:

Hmmmm? well the straight part of the brackets suggest girder forks but as for the loops on the end I'm afraid I don't know. Have a look inside for any signs of green paint in which case if so, would suggest a WD M20.

The bikes that I have owned with an ammeter & switch have these items mounted in a small panel and this panel then mounts on the headlamp.
Looks like a bush mechanic bodge ....

there should be a model number underneath if its lucas,just by the hook,dragonfly websight tells you which shell was fitted to which model.

I think that you will find that because it has the side struts that it,s from a BSA Gold Star.

Not any Gold Star I know about unless it's one of the very early first models. They typically have the same switch/ammeter unit mounted in the headlight shell and a curved/loop support for the bottom link running from one side to the other.
I checked out the M20 situation and the photo I found of a restoration project shows a normal switch/ammeter unit in the shell, but it did have two tubular links but for girder forks.
 I can't help with positive identification, sorry.

I'm with Flatboy.
Looks like a 60s shell with an early switch fitted.
The ammeter is a late alternator type.

Shame it doesn't appear to be off a G/Star - I'll get it cleaned up as see if any numbers appear.
But perhaps it'll look okay on a cafe racer type; one to mull over with a pint!

the goldstar has a hole in the bottom for a pug in loom,so the headlight could be removed,does look similar on the top,check the number.

Finally got round to removing the paint to reveal its a Lucas headlight shell with the part number of 'SS700P'?
Had a brief look on Draganfly's site but couldn't locate the headlight or reference to them? Also the BSAOC site was down!

So if anyone can shed any light on what this h/light belongs to I'd be grateful.

That's the standard Lucas pre-focus shell used on loads of bikes. Given its age it's probably been bodged several times....

The shells looks like it has been 'improved' since both the lighting switch and ammeter are not exactly central to say the least! So I would guess from the illustrations (cheers Wilko) that it is the plain shell in the fourth vertical column, 2nd from bottom. So not a goldy and perhaps not worth much, but the glass and reflector (no pilot light) are in good condition and with a re-paint wouldn't look too out of place on a cafe racer maybe?
