I'm not too happy that should I leave my bike unattended any goomer could just jump on
and kick her in the guts & ride off into the sunset...
so I was thinking about putting a HIDDEN switch onto the Maggy earth...
so that the maggy would be earthed all the time = no go
& when deactivated would run back up to the cutout switch on the handle bars...

Is this a good idea?       or any better suggestions?

Lots of people do this. Problem is, anyone who knows Mags will cut the kill wire and drive away. If I'm going to leave a bike, I put a big fat chain through the wheels.

Yeah I use a chain on my other bike when left for a long time,
as well as it's got a ignition key lock & alarm
I was thinking more about when left whilst paying for petrol etc..

I use the steering lock for short term parking like nipping into a shop or paying for fuel.

For longer term parking I use a lock and chain thinking that the more visible approach is a deterrent.  I also use the steering lock under these circumstances.

You could also swap the plug leads over.  That would also work.

just take off a plug cap and put it in your pocket, visual put off too

Only trouble is I've cut the left lead too short to reach the right plug

 A trend these days is to cover your # plate and ride off without paying  .
If you have a throttle lock screw, use it.
Most under the age of 50 wouldn't know how to start it anyway.

If for a short time like nipping in shop ect, A padlock on the clutch lever and round the handle bars while in the pulled in / engaged position ?.

I've always worked on the theory that someone can steal my bike provided I never find out who they are !

Unfortunately this is one of those things that you really cant do much about, if some scumbag is intent on nicking your bike there is not much you can do.

I'm always pretty carefull where I leave my bike, for instance if I stop at a cafe for a coffee I park my bike right in front of the window where I can see it. I never park a bike in a street and walk away and leave it. I guess I am lucky living in the country rather than a city, less chance of a bike disappearing.

Years ago I had a Blue Heeler (cattle dog) that rode on the tank with me everywhere, even bush bashing. She stayed with the bike, no chain needed, and no one could come within 6 foot of her. She did over 30,000 miles on the '51 and 50,000 on the rHond whore, only fell off once  .

I fitted pocket paging alarms to all my bikes that were daily rides.
Some had to be powered independantly with a little 12V battery worked a treat.
Quite a few would be thieves had a long wait in casulty to think better of knicking my motorcycles.
I also used one of those D locks some times simply because it fitted really well.
A friend put a small padlock on the chain so the bike went 3' forward and stopped dead, usually on top of the would be thief and a few of these ended up with a long wait in casulty as well.
It is amazing just how much damage a motorcycle boot can do to the hand of a would be thief as you accidently stomp on it while trying to lift the bike from on top of him.
