Welcome to the forum Orabanda. I'm a bit to the East of you in S.A.

Now I know for sure what my plunger A10 would look like with a chrome tank, thanks !

Brian.

Thanks mate,
My father bought it new in 1951.
The other '51 A10 is a rigid frame.
Very popular with the South Australian police force, who used to fit sidecars to them.
Villians being pursued used to head for the nearest round-about!

Ride safe,
Richard

Yes, welcome to the forum orabanda.
I was also interested in the chrome tank look.
I'm a bit further east again than Brian.
For the benefit of overseas members, 'a bit further east' is quite a bit more than a tankful of juice.
cheers

Thats terrific Richard, having a bike your Dad bought new. I couldnt think of a better family heirloom.

I have two A10's and two A7's but the plunger A10 is my favourite. Its hard to explain just why, I just love it.

Just out of curiosity, does your rigid A10 have a "R" in the frame no. The reason I ask is I went to a swap in the Adelaide hills recently and there was a basket case A10 for sale with rigid frame. The frame no was ZA7R 7782. It was missing a lot of bits but I did consider it. It has been at the same swap for the last two years and if it turns up next year I will have a better look.

Does anyone else in Western Aus have any A10's or have you got them all !!!!!!

Brian.

Brian,
I also know the history of the rigid A10, as my uncle bought it new from Mortlocks in Perth, around the same time my father bought his bike.
My uncle lived in Laverton (still does!) which is 1,000km from Perth in the desert.

He caught the train down to perth (2 day trip), bought the bike, nearly got killed riding it the wrong way up Hay St perth (one way st!), then rode it back to Laverton. 600 km of the trip was corrugated gravel roads!

He used it on a sheep and cattle station, until I sweet talked him into letting me have it.

This was its condition:

I have given away a Star Twin, and a 55 GF, which I then restored for my friend (Mario).

This is a Suzuki clutch which I have fitted to all of the swing arm A10's

I have other makes of bikes as well, but my current BSA project is a '60 Super Rocket with mods like roller brg bottom end, Ikon shocks, BTH self energising maggy, 8" triumph TLS brake and PE400 Suzuki clutch, but belt drive.

I have just completed these two, so the SR will take a further 6 months

I am also doing a 1927 Model A Ariel (557CC sidevalve)

My friend Colin Tie (in Mundaring) makes the clutches; his passion is Gold Stars

Regards,

Richard

Bill,
Colin has been collecting BSA bits for 50 years!

I rebuilt a '61 Super Rocket as a RGS replica.

This was the bike when purchased

When finished:

It has a great front stopper; '66 Lightning front brake, with non-standard oversize linings which I machined to suit the hub, AFTER machining hub as well.

Suzuki clutch (teeriffic!)

Oil filter hidden in tool box. this is my own design, and I have made them for allmy A10's. Stainless steel tubing going to 1/4" BSP bulkheads. One piece hoses made up by machinigh and crimping joinersinto standard hoses.

This is the same filter set-up in the rigid bike

Regards,

Richard
